scholarship information:Each year, MWWA presents scholarships to undergraduate students of higher learning. There are three separate scholarship programs.
The James J. Matera Scholarship AwardThis award was established in 1985 and is to be presented each year to undergraduate students of higher learning in number and amount to be determined with the funds available by the Scholarship Committee. This scholarship is open to MWWA Members and their Children/Grandchildren. The award will be presented to the recipient(s) at the Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet. Engineering Scholarship AwardThis scholarship was established in 2021 in memory of MWWA Past President Patrick S. O’Neale, PE. Each year, up to $2,000 in awards will be granted to undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering at a four-year accredited college or university, with preference given to those whose studies are related to water works practice. Eligibility: Applicants must have completed at least one year (two semesters) of study toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering at an accredited U.S. institution. Jack Operator Scholarship This award was established in 2024 in memory of MWWA’s Past President Raymond A. Jack. Throughout his career, Mr. Jack sought to raise the level of professionalism of drinking water operators and to enhance their career opportunities. This scholarship honors his legacy as a drinking water operator and instructor, his commitment to education, and his service to MWWA and the drinking water profession. Up to (2) scholarship awards will be presented each year (1 Spring/1Fall) to individuals seeking to obtain a Commonwealth of Massachusetts drinking water operator license (Distribution or Treatment) or to individuals looking to progress in their professional careers by obtaining higher level drinking water operator licenses, with preference given to those candidates who document financial hardship.
