8 HOUR OSHA CLASS II ASBESTOS TRAINING: 
ASBESTOS-CEMENT PIPE (ACP) WORKER SAFETY

MassDEP has issued guidance for the removal of Asbestos-Cement Pipe.  Employees working on the pipe must take training approved by the Department of Labor Standards to certify that they understand the proper safety protocols and acceptable work practices.  Certification will need to be renewed every 5 years.  This class will provide an understanding of:   

• Types and uses of asbestos and identification of the material
• The nature of asbestos-related diseases and routes of exposure
• Applicable federal and state regulations regarding asbestos
• Proper techniques for cutting and removing asbestos-cement pipe including a review of MassDEP’s new guidance document
• Proper use of respirator / PPE
  
• Pipe cutting demonstration(s) and pipe wrapping hands-on activity
• Proper final visual inspection and waste disposal proceedures
• Review of MassDEP's AC Pipe Guidance Document and related reporting forms

Attendees must successfully pass a multiple choice exam to receive certification.  Those completing this seminar will be awarded 5.5 TCHs.  Credits approved for both water and wastewater operators.

Physical Characteristics of Asbestos: Physical appearance, types and uses, hazard assessment of asbestos containing cement pipes identification and analysis of asbestos.

 9:30- 10:00

 Hazard Assessment: AC Pipe work site hazards.

Potential Health Effects Related to Asbestos Exposure:  The nature of asbestos-related diseases, routes of exposure, dose-responses, relationship of asbestos exposure to asbestosis, lung cancer, mesothelioma, and cancer of other organs.

Federal and State Regulations:  OSHA Asbestos in Construction Standard, EPA NESHAP and Worker Protection Rule; *MassDEP AC Pipe Guidance Document.

AC Pipe Work Practices:  *MassDEP AC Pipe Guidance Document. Engineering controls and specialized equipment, best work practices, and waste disposal procedures.

Visual Inspections:  Competent Person visual inspection requirements for work site safety, work methods, waste handling and disposal, requirements, AC Pipe Project Checklist, records.

Course Review: Cutting/Milling Asbestos Cement Pipe Video

Course Evaluation and Examination:  25 question multiple choice examination.

 MWWA/UAP Members: $225  Non-Members: $275

CANCELLATION & ATTENDANCE POLICY: No Shows or Cancellations with less than 7 days notice will be charged a $125 cancellation fee.  Participants must attend 90% of the program and complete a session evaluation form to be eligible for TCHs and Asbestos Certification. TCHs and Certification will not be issued until full payment is received.
