OSHA Requirements - What MA Utilities Need to Know

Effective February 1, 2019 MA General Law (Chapter 146, § 6) requires that all Massachusetts public employees to follow federal OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) safety regulations.   Compliance with these requirements is overseen by the MA Dept. of Labor Standards (DLS).

This full day class is an awareness training will present a general overview of the important utility safety issues and will include presentations and equipment demonstrations by Tiger Training of Marshfield, MA.  There will be a hands on component in the afternoon and attendees are encouraged to bring PPE equipment that they own, such as respirators and air monitoring equipment.

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand the new safety requirements and how to begin down the path toward compliance
  • To be aware of the hazards related to: trenches, confined spaces, ladders, power tools, electricity, personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, blood borne pathogens, AC pipe and hazard communication
  • To practice proper use of specific types of PPE and other safety equipment

This course is approved for 6.0 TCHs (Training Contact Hours) for MA Water and Wastewater Operators.  Approval is pending for Rhode Island Water Operators.

ATTENDANCE & TCH POLICY: Participants must attend 90% of the program and complete a session evaluation form to be eligible for TCHs.  TCHs will be issued only when full payment is received.
