Course Description:

Emphasis will be on proper chemical application, regulations, laboratory analysis, safety, and electrical/mechanical equipment. An introduction of topics covering hydrology, hydrologic cycle, potable water sources and use, treatment technologies, and administration, will be provided.

Course Objectives:

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with a 42-hour (minimum) basic course in preparation of a level 2 (T2) water treatment plant operator license. The prerequisite(s) for this course include: High school diploma or GED; knowledge of basic mathematical principles.

The primary text for the course is the California State University at Sacramento—Office of Water Programs Series entitled Water Treatment Plant Operation, Volumes I and II.  In addition, the course may be supplemented with the American Water Works Association (AWWA’s) Field Guide to SDWA Regulations.

This course is divided into 14 modules presented in (8) 6.0 hr sessions (there is a 45 minute break for lunch and lunch is on your own). Some sessions will cover more than one module, whereas other modules will require a full session to complete. For each module, the student will be provided with a homework assignment, to be completed by the student after the session and then returned to the instructor prior to the following session, at which time the solutions to each homework assignment will be reviewed.

A “mid-term” exam will be administered at the end of Week 4, and a “final exam” will be administered at the final week of the course.   Successful completion of the Basic Treatment Training Course will be determined by a combination of the following:
