Many water utilities have exceeded or are concerned with exceedi ng the MCL for Total Trihalomethanes (TTHMs), and/or Haloacetic Acids (HAAs ). An understanding of the characteristics and formation of both of these r egulated groups of chlorinated Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs) can help util ities develop compliance strategies.
This half day course will provid e a brief overview of THM and HAA formation chemistry and some of the commo n strategies used to reduce and/or remove them at the source, the treatment plant and the distribution system. Valuable information for several case s tudies will also be presented.
Learning Objectives:
• • Understand how chlorinated DPBs are formed;
