This 42 hour state-approved course is designed to provide the student with the general concepts of drinking water treatment operations. Taking and passing this course is a pre-requisite for taking the Grade 2 Treatment examination. Material covered includes: hydrology, source waters, basic chemistry, treatment technologies, proper chemical application, regulations, laboratory analysis, equipment maintenance, safety and administrative duties. Course Objectives: The primary text for the course is the California State University at Sacramento—Office of Water Programs Series entitled Water Treatment Plant Operation, Volumes I (7th Edition) and Volume II (6th Edition). This course is divided into 14 modules presented over an 8 week period. Each week students will have both a reading and written homework assignment. Homework assignments must be completed by the student and handed in to the instructor prior to the following session, at which time the solutions to each homework assignment will be reviewed. A "mid-term” exam (50 question, multiple choice, 90 minutes) will be administered in the 4th week and a “final exam” (100 question, multiple choice, 3 hour) will be administered at the conclusion of the final week.
