MWWA EDUCATION SEMINAR

ROADWAY DEICING - UNDERSTANDING THE IMPACTS & OPTIONS FOR WATER SYSTEMS

The course will include several case studies of Massachusetts communities on how road salt has impacted source water quality and the challenges it presents when striving for compliance with drinking water standards.   There will also be a discussion on past practices of roadway deicing and what new technologies and strategies can be used to achieve a balance between safe roads and protecting water supplies.  This course is approved for 3.0 TCH (Training Contact Hours).

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about the history of roadway deicing.
  • Understand the impact on water quality and water treatment
  • Explore the emerging technologies and practices available to keep roadways safe and minimize adverse impacts on public water supplies
