ADVANCED WATER TREATMENT (T3/T4)

Course Location:          Fallulah WTP, Fitchburg, MA

Dates & Times:              Mondays:  Oct. 7 - December 2nd (7 weeks, No classes on 10/14 and 11/11),  8:45 AM - 3:45 PM

Course Description:

This 38.5-hour, State-approved course offered by Massachusetts Water Works Association, is designed to provide the student with the advanced concepts of drinking water treatment operations.

Operator will be equipped with ability to control process, not just basic understanding (e.g. being able to answer the "why" or "why not" questions). Emphasis will be on filtration and reporting.

Advanced topics include: potable water sources and use, treatment technologies, laboratory, and administration will be covered.

Through a combination of lecture and group discussion, each distribution system task and/or maintenance technique will be reviewed and then discussed in depth. 

Course Objectives:

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with a 38.5-hour (minimum) basic course in preparation of a level 3 and 4 (T3/4) water treatment plant operator license. The prerequisite(s) for this course include: High school diploma or GED; knowledge of basic mathematical and algebra principles.

The primary text for the course is the California State University at Sacramento—Office of Water Programs Series entitled Water Treatment Plant Operation, Volumes I (7th Edition) and Volume II (6th Edition).

This course is divided into modules presented in (11) 3.5 hr sessions (approximately). Some sessions will cover more than one module, whereas other modules will require a full session to complete. For each module, the student will be provided with a homework assignment, to be completed by the student after the session and then returned to the instructor prior to the following session, at which time the solutions to each homework assignment will be reviewed.

A “mid-term” exam will be administered in the 4th week and a “final exam” will be administered at the conclusion of the final module.  Successful completion of the Advanced Treatment Training Course will be determined by a combination of the following:

Attendance: 14 points (must attend a minimum of 6 classes per Board of Certification)

Homework: 25 points

Mid-term: possible 30 points

Final Exam: possible 35 points

Must have a minimum of 70 points (total) to pass

Withdrawals and Refunds
Course Withdrawal Policy:
1. Withdraw before the first day of class: Full refund
2. Withdraw after first class: 90% refund
3. Withdraw after second class: 50% refund
4. Withdraw after third class: No refund
Any withdrawal must be in writing and presented to MWWA.
