8 HOUR OSHA CLASS II ASBESTOS TRAINING: 
ASBESTOS-CEMENT PIPE WORKER SAFETY

Approved for Rhode Island Water Operator TCHs

MassDEP has issued guidance for the removal of Asbestos-Cement Pipe.  Employees working on the pipe must take training approved by the Department of Labor Standards to certify that they understand the proper safety protocols and acceptable work practices.  Certification will need to be renewed every 5 years.  This class will provide an understanding of:   

  • Types and uses of asbestos and identification of the material
  • The nature of asbestos-related diseases and routes of exposure
  • Applicable federal and state regulations regarding asbestos
  • Proper techniques for cutting and removing asbestos-cement pipe including a review of MassDEP’s new guidance document
  • Proper use of respirator / PPE
  • Pipe cutting demonstration(s) and pipe wrapping hands-on activity
  • Proper final visual inspection and waste disposal procedures
  • Review of MassDEP's AC Pipe Guidance Document and related reporting forms

Attendees must successfully pass a multiple choice exam to receive certification.  Those completing this seminar will be awarded 5.5 TCHs.  Credits approved for both water and wastewater operators.
