Proper Hydrant Operation & Maintenance

(Course ID: MWWA 22-003)

Hydrants are the most visible component of a water system. They are used to fight fires, flush pipelines and occasionally used to supply water to trucks or other construction equipment. Improper installation, repair or maintenance can lead to inadequate flow or failure which may result in a life-threatening situation when fighting a fire.
This class will provide an overview of the common types of hydrants and how to properly install, operate, repair, and maintain this critical distribution system component. Attendees will see a display of the hydrant components as wells as the tools and parts used for repair and maintenance. An overview of performing hydrant flushing and flow testing will also be presented.

 Learning Objectives:

Review the types of hydrants and how they operate;
 Understand how to install, repair, and maintain hydrants;
 Learn how to properly perform hydrant flushing and flow testing.

 This course is approved for 3 TCHs (Training Contact Hours) for Massachusetts Water and Wastewater Operators, as well as Rhode Island Water Operators. Live in-person class!
