MassDEP has issued guidance for the removal of Asbestos-Cement Pipe (ACP). Employees working on the pipe must take training approved by the Department of Labor Standards to certify that they understand the proper safety protocols and acceptable work practices.  Certification will need to be renewed every 5 years.  This class will provide an understanding of: 

• Types and uses of asbestos and identification of the material
• The nature of asbestos-related diseases and routes of exposure
• Applicable federal and state regulations regarding asbestos
• Proper techniques for cutting and removing ACP
• Pipe cutting and pipe wrapping demonstration(s)
• Proper final visual inspection and waste disposal procedures
• Review of MassDEP’s AC Pipe Guidance Document and related reporting forms

Attendees must successfully pass a multiple choice exam to receive certification.  This course is approved for 5.5 TCHs (Training Contact Hours) for Massachusetts water and RI Drinking Water Operators. It will be taught using the Zoom platform.  Participants will need to have a reliable highspeed internet connection and computer device with both video and audio capability.  Please review our Student Expectations for Attending Virtual Training at www.masswaterworks.org/education.

ATTENDANCE &TCH POLICY: NO SHOWS OR CANCELLATIONS WITH LESS THAN 7 DAYS NOTICE WILL BE CHARGED A $125 CANCELLATION FEE.  Participants must attend 90% of the program and complete a session evaluation form to be eligible for TCHs and Certification. TCHs & Course Certificates will not be issued until full payment is received. 

• This remote online course has been approved by the Mass. Dept. of Labor Standards to satisfy the 5 year AC Pipe Worker Safety recertification requirements.

• All participants must be have access to a computer with a camera and microphone throughout the entire class.  (Computers without audio can connect to the audio via a telephone).  

• AC Pipe certificates as well as Training Contact Hour certificates (5.5 TCHs) will be mailed to all students that participate in the entire remote session and successfully complete the 25 question exam at the end of the class.

Prior to the class, our AC Pipe training provider (ATC Group Services) will mail a copy of the course manual to the address you provided in the registration form. ATC Group Services will also email instructions (to the email address you provided in the registration form) on how to log into the remote session.
