Virtual Roundtable: “Customer Payment Policies During the Pandemic” 

In an effort to exchange information on how utilities are addressing customers who are experiencing trouble paying their bills during the pandemic, MWWA will host a roundtable for Public Water Systems to discuss this issue.  The virtual roundtable will be on Thursday, October 29th from 2-3 PM.  The target audience for this roundtable is:  Executives/Managers, Treasurers, Financial Staff, Billing/Customer Service Staff.   The legislation preventing municipal utilities from terminating service expired on June 30th, but utilities may have established their own policies to extend the prohibition on service termination, late fees, or other penalties for non-payment. We are interested in facilitating a dialogue that could include the following topics:   
  • Is your utility facing financial/revenue pressure due to non-payments during the pandemic?
  • Have you established any new financial assistance programs to assist your customers?
  • Are you working with customers on payment plans? 
  • Are you moving forward with shut-offs?  If not, when do you plan to?
  • Are you experiencing any pressures from your community regarding your termination policies?
The above are just ideas, and we would love to hear other related topics to discuss.  Please send me any suggestions in advance so that we can better coordinate the meeting.
